Preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences and reducing their effects

What do we do?

We help adults who may be negatively affected by their ACEs.

And we help parents – and expectant parents – who worry about passing their ACEs on to their children.

Getting help often starts with finding out your ACEs score. Discovering your ACEs score is free.

What are ACEs?

ACEs are highly stressful situations that can occur during your childhood. This includes physical and emotional abuse, neglect and household dysfunction.

ACEs can have a serious and lifelong impact on your physical and mental health.

Tragically, adults can pass their ACEs on to their children.

Preventing ACEs in future generations could reduce levels of:
  • Early sex by 22%
  • Unintended teen pregnancy by 38%
  • Smoking (current) by 16%
  • Binge drinking (current) by 15%
  • Heroin/crack use (lifetime) by 59%
  • Incarceration (lifetime) by 53%
  • Poor diet (current) by 14%
  • Anxiety disorders by 31%
  • Behavioural disorders by 41%
  • Psychosis by 33%
  • Mental health diagnoses by 29%

Adversity is not destiny.
Do not let ACEs define your life.
Or the life of your children.

Because the effects of ACEs are treatable and preventable.

How we can help

Find out your ACEs score

Discovering your ACEs score is often the first step to getting help for yourself. And to protecting your children from ACEs.

The higher your ACEs score, the higher your risk of developing serious health and social issues, such as diabetes, depression, stroke, PTSD, cancer, and substance abuse.
