Preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences and reducing their effects

Terms and Conditions

Version: 9th July 2023

These Terms and Conditions (Conditions) govern your relationship with our website (myacestory.com) and related services.

Please read these Conditions carefully before using our website and/or services offered.

By using our website and/or related services, you agree to be bound by these Conditions. These Conditions apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use our website and/or services offered. If you do not agree to these Conditions, in whole or in part, please do not use our website and/or related services.

We amend these Conditions from time to time. So please ensure that you read these Conditions carefully each time before using our website and/or services offered. This is to ensure that you understand these Conditions – and agree to be bound by them – as per the most recent version of these Conditions.

1. Information about us

We are My ACE Story CIC, a social enterprise company registered in England and Wales under company number 14723851.

2. Terms of Service

Our website is an online platform allowing an adult (i.e. aged 18 and over):
a) To find out about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) including their potential impact and related information.
b) Complete an anonymous survey about your ACEs and obtain an ACE score.
c) To consider booking an Appointment with an independent Counsellor via the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) website, whose services are subject to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling.
d) To book (if you wish to) an online screening of the film, ‘Resilience’  (the Film Screening).
e) To find out information and book online parenting course(s).

Our website provides the technology facilitating the connection between yourself and the ACE survey, the BACP, a Film Screening, and Parenting Courses. We are not a health service provider.

You understand that:
a) By completing the anonymous survey and receiving a score, that score does not define you. Having ACEs does not determine our futures - our stories are more than a number. The important thing is to identify and understand our ACEs and then work to find ways to heal. The website provides information and links to providers who could provide help.
b) By booking an Appointment with a Counsellor on the BACP website, the Counsellor is an independent provider who is neither our employee nor agent nor representative. The Counsellor may offer advice and she/he is solely responsible for the advice offered.
c) By booking a Film Screening through the platform, you understand that this documentary film contains material which may help you understand and reflect on your ACEs. This platform cannot be responsible for any reactions.
d) The information and link to parenting courses is for informational purposes only. Subsequent booking of any course by yourself is independent of My ACE Story CIC  (i.e. we do not act as an agent).

You understand our website acts as information source, enabling you to conveniently access a Counsellor, a Film Screening, a parenting course and other information. You understand, accept and agree that My ACE Story CIC is not liable in any way whatsoever for any damages, losses or claims resulting from any aspect of your care initiated by the Counsellor you have connected with and/or from the Film Screening.

3. Use of our Website

My ACE Story does not guarantee that the website, or any of its content, will be free from errors or omissions.

The website is made available free of charge.

My ACE Story does not guarantee that the website, or any content on it, will always be available or uninterrupted. Access to the website is permitted on a temporary basis.

My ACE Story may, at its discretion, suspend, withdraw, discontinue or change all or any part of the website without notice. My ACE Story will not be liable to you if for any reason the website is unavailable at any time or for any period.

You are responsible for making all arrangements necessary to have access to the website and any subsequent Appointments, either with a Counsellor or for a Film Screening.

The website is intended for use only by those who can access it from within the UK. If you choose to access the website from locations outside the UK, you are responsible for compliance with local laws where they are applicable.

4. Exceptions of Use

Our website is designed to enable you to find out about ACEs, find out your ACE score, consider booking an Appointment with a Counsellor on a private and self-pay basis for a non-emergency consultation, and/or book a Film Screening. If you feel that the situation is an emergency or a situation that may imminently escalate to that of an emergency, you should seek immediate emergency services such as dialling 999 or attending the local A&E department.

My ACE Story is not suitable for medical issues which need a GP or other doctor.

5. Booking a Film Screening

Our website allows you to book a ticket for an online Film Screening of the documentary 'Resilience' at a pre-arranged time. The film ‘Resilience’ is 60 minutes long and the Film Screening allows a 23-hour slot to start watching the film online.

After you have placed a booking, we will send you a confirmation email that will provide you with the booking details. A contract will only be formed between My ACE Story and yourself when we send this confirmation email and receive your payment.

6. Charges and payment

The charges for a Film Screening are as specified on the website at the time you book. We make reasonable efforts to ensure that the charges are correct at the time when the relevant information was entered onto the system.

Charges for a Film Screening may change from time to time, but changes will not affect any you have already booked.

You can only pay for a Film Screening using a debit card or credit card.

Payment for a Film Screening must be made at the time of booking.

All amounts payable by yourself under these Conditions are inclusive of amounts in respect of value added tax chargeable for the time being (VAT).

If your payment fails to go through or is cancelled after booking a Film Screening, then the virtual seat at the Film Screening will be cancelled and My ACE Story CIC is not liable in anyway whatsoever for any damages, losses or claims related to not providing services.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team who will be wearing a Welcome lanyard.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits from 10am, before the service begins. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets in the main foyer.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of sung worship, led by our band. We typically have 2 or 3 songs lasting approximately 20 minutes. Sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible. Sometimes people share things that they believe God is saying to the whole church family. This might seem strange the first time you hear it but it’s all part of our connecting with God. We then share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church. One of our leaders will then give a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We then finish with a final worship song. Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

What about my kids?

We have a great programme lined up for kids of all ages:

  • Creche (0 months to 3 years). Children under 6 months are welcome but must be accompanied by their parent/grown-up at all times.
  • Livewires (3-7 years)
  • Encounter (7-11 years)
  • Katalyst (11-15 years)
  • Young people (15+ years) Stay in service.

Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, songs and notices. We really value worshipping God all together as a family. At the end of the notices someone will announce that it’s time for the younger members to go to their various groups. You will need to go with your children to their groups and register them as part of our child safety policy. Whilst you are dropping your kids off at their groups, we pause to take time to chat to someone sitting near or next to us, giving folk a chance to come back before the sermon begins.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play. Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
